Workshops
On behalf of the La Raza Youth Leadership Conference, we invite you to participate as a workshop presenter for the 2008 conference. As a presenter, you will be given the opportunity to touch the lives of dozens of Latino/a youth and help improve our community.
This year’s conference will be on Saturday, April 26, 2008 on the Auraria campus in Downtown Denver. As a presenter, we ask you to commit to delivering three (3) presentations, approximately 50 minutes in length and no more than 25 students per presentation. The time commitment for the day is between 8:30-1:00. Lunch and entertainment begins at 1:00 and you are welcome to stay and enjoy the activities.
This year's conference theme is “¡Unite La Raza: Es Nuestro Futuro!" The conference targets Raza youth from ages 12 through 18; male and female; and Spanish and English speaking students. Presentation topics should fit into the four conference workshop tracks -- Careers, Cultural Awareness, Self- Awareness, and Leadership.
For the conference program, we'll need your presentation information. Titles of workshops should be informative, as well as catchy - to help get the students interested in the topic. The description should be about two or three sentences and convey what you plan to cover or what they [the students] can expect to learn. In addition, we will need information regarding your target audience, such as specifying gender; age group (middle school, high school), language preference, etc. Each workshop session should only be in one language - Spanish or English. From past evaluations, we have been told bilingual presentations do not seem to work well for students or presenters. If you are comfortable presenting in both languages, we ask that at least one of your sessions be in Spanish. Please complete the enclosed form with your information and preferences. If you presented last year and would like to use the same information, please let us know.
Please commit to presenting at the 2008 conference by returning the enclosed (attached) form by Friday, March 14, 2008 via email
